Louisa has recently created a series of contemporary ceramic artworks called "round heaven, square earth" (天圓地方).Each sculpture features carefully selected glaze textures and hues, chosen to evoke emotions and memories. The interplay of colors invites personal interpretation, transforming these ceramic forms into objects of contemplation and emotional resonance, bridging ancient philosophy with contemporary expression.

Artist Statement:

In this collection, I explore the profound relationship between circular and angular forms, drawing from the traditional Chinese concept of "round heaven, square earth" (天圓地方). The circle, a symbol of wholeness, the cosmos, and the cycle of life, intertwines with the stability and grounded nature of the square to reflect the dynamic balance between transcendence and grounding.

The circular ceramic forms convey the infinite flow of time and existence, with certain rings remaining unbroken to signify harmony, while others are intentionally fractured to depict life’s unpredictability and growth through imperfection.

At the base of the circles, small cubes act as grounding anchors, symbolizing the connection between the ethereal and the material. This juxtaposition mirrors the complementary relationship between the heavens and the earth, encouraging viewers to reflect on their role within this cosmic equilibrium.

Each sculpture features carefully selected glaze textures and hues, chosen to evoke emotions and memories. The interplay of colors invites personal interpretation, transforming these ceramic forms into objects of contemplation and emotional resonance, bridging ancient philosophy with contemporary expression
